Discovering Bornholm: A journey to 'solskinsøen'

Join us on a trip to Bornholm, a beautiful island in the Baltic Sea, below Sweden and far east from Denmark's mainland. It's known as the "Sunshine Island" because of its lovely weather and the "Rock Island" for its stunning cliffs and granite rocks, except at the southern coast.

Bornholm is more than just its natural beauty. It's a place where artists, business owners, and passionate people come together, keeping the island's traditions of making things by hand alive. Our adventure took us to many special places, starting in Nexø, nestled on the eastern shores of Bornholm. A port city that has transformed from a quaint fishing village into a lively town filled with charming shops. One of these shops, Nexø Herremagasin, is run by Magnus Andersen since 2019. This shop is one of the oldest in Bornholm, dating back to 1928 when Ejnar Jensen first opened it, buying the rights from the local police chief for a very low price. The store has a rich history, still holding onto original items like hangers marked with "Ejnar Jensen Nexø."

Magnus showed us around, sharing stories of the shop and his favorite places on Bornholm, like his family's old fisherman's house, his top spot for lunch, which is called "Maries", and the old harbor in Nexø.Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the stories of Bornholm, the island where the sun always shines on something old and something new, creating a beautiful story of community, creativity, and love for the island.
