Meet our denim Designer Annette Svensk Rasmussen

In this interview, Annette Svensk Rasmussen, denim designer at MOS MOSH, shares her journey as a designer, where she finds her inspiration, and how MOS MOSH’s signature denim styles have evolved over time. Discover how her dedication to denim and keen eye for detail help shape MOS MOSH’s timeless yet trendy collections.

How did you get started as a denim designer at MOS MOSH?
My journey at MOS MOSH started around 7 years ago. In the beginning I took care of the fitting and controlling of production. I know every pair of jeans inside and out and I have a very close collaboration with our denim supplier. 3 years ago, MOS MOSH was short of a denim designer and for me, it was the most natural switch, because I know the denim so well, and I’m so inspired by all the small details and have such a big passion for the styles.

What inspires you and how is your creative process?
I get inspired when I go on inspiration trips to different European cities. On these trips I look for new trends, small details, new shapes, or a cool denim wash. I also find inspiration when I go to fabric fares or visit my suppliers and fabric suppliers in Turkey.
Once the well-developed fabric and wash is chosen, the denim process begins: the fit and all the small details are created, and a unique new style is born.
I’m a perfectionist, so for me it’s hard to know when to stop. Every single style is twisted and turned, again and again, and a style can change more than once before reaching the final look.

Can you tell us the story behind the first MOS MOSH jeans?
Sure, I think it’s kind of a fun story to tell. The founder of MOS MOSH, Kim Hyldahl, has always had a passion for jeans. He was very inspired by the American way of making denim and their expertise in making great fits, but also Italian denim and how they use so many details and applications. He saw a gap in the marked and decided to give it a go – so, the first drawings of jeans and pants were drawn at his kitchen table at these jeans lay the foundation of what MOS MOSH is today. We see ourselves as being a denim brand, so naturally jeans are still a big part of our collections today. And of course we’ll always keep making denim.

How has the journey of MOS MOSH jeans been? What are most popular today?
MOS MOSH jeans are known for their good, the feminine details and cool wash. It’s still the recipe for a good pair of MOS MOSH jeans, even though the trends change over the years.  We still have a few styles in the collection today, that saw the light of day when MOS MOSH first started – like the Naomi-fit, who is a bestseller. We still keep her in the collections, but every season we challenge the fit and details to evolve the style and make it more up to date.

You’ll also find cool Italian exclusive denim wash and vintage American, more aggressive wash, in our denim collections, simply because it’s our DNA and what began our denim story. But we also look to the market and explore the more trendy fits, like the old-school ‘90s wash, clean rinse wash, and blue and black wash with bleached effect. We see that some of the trendy fits such as the barrel-fit, oversize fit and wide leg jeans are becoming more and more popular every season.

What are some of the essential denim styles everyone should have in their wardrobe?
I think it’s essential to have a pair of straight fit in your everyday wardrobe. The width leg is also becoming more and more popular and gives the illusion of longer legs – who doesn’t want that right?
A must-have is also a classic denim shirt or oversize shirt you can wear and an open jacket or closed shirt. It’s important for me to emphasize that the most important thing is that your denim gives you the feeling of self-confidence and adds as feminine vibes.

What is your favorite fit and your go-to uniform?
Personally, I like to wear wide or straight leg jeans with a mid-blue vintage wash or rinse wash, and I often pair it with a clean white tee or classic white shirt. It’s timeless and cool. In wintertime I go for a black and grey oversize blazer. I like it simple, and I think it’s easy to dress up or down with either sneaks or high heels.

What is your best denim advice?
Don’t be afraid to mix denim with denim. Use old and new denim together, combine cool and classic. Denim is so easy and cool to dress up and down!
